When you ask someone to consider which U.S. Cities have the most pride, it’s easy to assume their minds might immediately conjure up visions of colorful, glittery floats in New York or San Francisco. That is unless you ask a Providence resident. Whether part of the LGBTQ+ community or not, they know the real answer — it’s nearly impossible to miss the rainbow flags waving from houses and businesses in every neighborhood, or to ignore the massive throng of joyful queers who flock here each June. But what they might not realize is just how deep it runs throughout the entirety of our little state — from a long history of transgender trailblazers to the groups and nonprofits that work tirelessly to provide individuals with a sense of community and belonging. And that’s something Little Rhody certainly should be proud of. So, if you’re interested in learning how you can properly appreciate and celebrate this beautiful month locally, just follow the rainbow. 🏳️🌈
