The Mexican food scene in Providence will be getting some major reinforcements this summer as Boston’s Yellow Door Taqueria makes the fifty-mile journey down I-95.

Yellow Door Taqueria has three successful locations in the Boston area; their menu is influenced by California, as leadership has always aimed to mix West Coast surfer vibes with the modernism of the East Coast.

That leadership team is made up of Dropkick Murphys’ frontman Ken Casey, who co-owns Yellow Door alongside husband-and-wife duo Taniya Nayak and Brian O’Donnell. Casey is well known as the member of the Dropkick Murphys who has been with the band since it formed in 1996. Nayak is a TV personality known for her work on HGTV and the Food Network; she’s one of the most famous interior designers in the United States. O’Donnell is a successful restaurateur who has been in the restaurant game for over a decade. Rounding out the team is hospitality expert Colleen Hagerty, a California-based journalist who has published work with some of the most prestigious networks in the world.

If you’ve been to the Yellow Door in Boston, then you know to expect vibrant energy paired with great food and drinks, which will be no different in their new home. That new home is on the first floor of the Aloft Providence Downtown Hotel.

Thanks to interior designers Nayak and O’Donnell, the Yellow Door will have one of the most unique interiors you’ll ever see. Merging modern coastal design with antiques, you’ll get a feeling of new while still recognizing the history of Mexican culture in America.

“With Yellow Door, it’s about a place that feels like an escape—sun-drenched and soulful, with unexpected details and lots of character, as if you stepped into an antique shop in Mexico,” Nayak says. “This Providence location keeps that spirit alive, with a few surprises along the way.”

The location itself is 2,500 square feet, seating 135 patrons between the dining room, bar and outdoor seating. Upon opening, Yellow Door plans to be in full swing, offering a dinner and brunch menu as well as catering options. Their menu is well known for their street tacos made with their house tortillas and local seasonal ingredients. If you’re looking for a drink to pair with your food, you’ll be pleased to hear Yellow Door is also famous for its bar program.

Yellow Door offers a drink menu full of craft cocktails, handcrafted signature margaritas and the drinks are focused on tequila, mezcal and house-infused cocktails. Once Yellow Door is up and running, their goal is to serve the best margaritas in all of Providence. The cherry on top is that the drink menu will rotate, giving patrons the chance to try something new.

So, if you’re looking for something new, fresh cocktails, homemade Mexican food, great tacos or maybe that west coast feeling, then Yellow Door Taqueria is the place for you. Their doors are expected to open in August, and given the team’s experience it’ll most certainly be a successful launch.
