Theatre By the Sea Announces Monday Evening Concert Series
Three Broadway stars, local legends among the celebrated guests.
Raise the curtain! Theatre By The Sea (TBTS) owner and producer Bill Hanney announced the introduction of a 2024 summer concert series to be held on select Mondays this season, celebrating the company’s ninety-one years of business.
Beginning on June 17, the all-new Monday Evening Concert Series will welcome some of Broadway’s most celebrated vocalists, casting directors and local ensembles to the stage. Performers will reminisce on their careers thus far, re-performing their most memorable acts while sharing behind-the-scenes anecdotes for each role.
Opening night will feature the work of Stephen DeAngelis, a New York casting director and producer who wrote A Broadway Celebration especially for this TBTS spectacle. Actors Lisa Howard, Brennyn Lark and Julius Thomas III will kick off the series under the accompaniment of Musical Director Asher Denburg.
All three featured actors have starred in numerous awarded musicals, including The 25th Annual Putman County Spelling Bee and Six The Musical. Popular musical selections from Hamilton, The Sound of Music, Les Misérables, Grease and more can be expected at the series’ debut.
On July 8, Simply Barbra starring Steven Brinberg will commence. Brinberg, a renowned actor and impersonator, has performed as Barbara Streisand across America, Australia, the U.K. and other countries, interweaving his spirited voice and an unnervingly accurate portrayal of Streisand for thousands to enjoy. Both hysterical and touching, you will not want to miss Brinberg’s stardom!
American A Capella and the Narragansett Bay Chorus will grace the stage on August 5, with special appearances by Second Nature and Street Corner, who will make their debuts as vocal quartets. Since 1949, the Narragansett Bay Chorus has represented the Providence Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, which is the largest male singing organization across the globe. Their performances, in recent years, have helped raise more than a half million dollars for Rhode Island non-profits and charities.
Stretching into September, Rhode Island’s own Billy Gilman and the Ragged Impresarios will take the TBTS spotlight. Gilman was the youngest singer to ever reach #1 on the Billboard Top Country Album charts, garnering attention from The Grammys and many worldwide music publications. After recently competing in NBC’s The Voice finale, he returns to his home state with new original music and experiences to share.
The Monday Evening Concert Series will only take place on the following select dates: June 17, July 8, Aug. 5 and Sept. 9. Each performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. on the main stage, located at 364 Cards Pond Road in Wakefield. Tickets range from $39–$59.
