Is there a better way to spend a fall afternoon than cozied up in your favorite sweater at the local farm, listening to folk tunes and sipping a local brew?

The Collaborative delivers all this and more this weekend with Folk at the Farm, the annual folk jam at Frerichs Farm in Warren. The event on Sunday, Oct. 1, from 2 to 6 p.m. features four local bands whose acoustic tunes and ringing harmonies are the perfect accompaniment for an afternoon outdoors.

“This lineup will inspire a deeper connection to the tradition and community around folk music,” says Uriah Donnelly, executive director and founder of the Collaborative. “Folk at the Farm gathers the community in a memorable experience that we’re excited to share with you!”

The lineup includes the internationally acclaimed Atwater-Donnelly Band offering American and Celtic folk songs and local favorite the Whelks, whose three-part harmonies span the genres of swing, bluegrass, country and folk. The Vox Hunters will bring their mix of traditional Rhode Island tunes, while Jake Blount reconnects to the roots of Black folk music.

Along with the music, attendees can enjoy food from Blount Clam Shack and W’s Mobile Wood Fired Pizza Oven, plus steaming hot doughnuts from Poppin Minis RI and refreshing treats from Del’s Lemonade. Proclamation Ale Company will be on hand pouring local brews, and Wine Wizards of Tiverton will have beverages for the wine drinkers.

The free event comes only a month after the successful Warren Folks Festival, the neighborhood music bash the Collaborative throws every year in downtown Warren. The local arts organization was founded in 2016 to create free and low-cost opportunities for artists and the community to exhibit, experience and learn through the arts. Donations made during Folk at the Farm will support the Collaborative’s mission, with a portion going to the David S. Frerichs Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund.

In addition to the music, visitors can enjoy the seasonal offerings from Frerichs Farm, including the mum field and the Holiday House and Gift Shop. Pick up another spooky item for your Halloween décor, or stock up on local honey from the Honey Shack.

Speaking of spooky, the Collaborative gallery is hosting “Oh, the Horror!” A Dark Art Show for the month of October starting on Oct. 5. Stop by 4 Market St. in Warren for frightening takes on seasonal themes. The gallery is open on Thursdays and Fridays from 4:30 to 9 p.m., Saturdays from 2 to 9 p.m. and Sundays from 2 to 6 p.m.
