Wine & Dine

Do you hate food shopping? Cooking?  Good news: these places will do the job for you, sometimes even for free.

Grocery delivery

A surprising number of grocery stores go above and beyond stocking and checking out. Here are a few that offer more services.

Clements’ Marketplace
2575 E. Main Road, Portsmouth
683-0180, clementsmarket.com
Clements’ will schlep your groceries to your home in Portsmouth or Tiverton (a $5.99 service with orders of $100 or more; otherwise it’s $8.95). If you’re visiting the store, they’ll carry your bags to your car.

Eastside Marketplace
165 Pitman Street, Providence
831-7771, eastsidemarket.com
At Eastside Marketplace, they’ll not only lug your groceries to your car (just pull up to the outdoor area labeled parcel pick up), they’ll also do home delivery: $10 charge for same-day service within two miles; the same service is $7.50 if you don’t mind ordering the day before. Just fax in your list (831-7815) or email it to Kmoreau@East
sidemarket.com.

Munroe Dairy
438-4450, cowtruck.com
Got milk? You will, and a lot more, after ordering from Munroe Dairy. The milk they sell is very fresh and free of growth hormones. They also offer organic eggs, fresh bread, juice, meats, ground coffee, vegetables and frozen meals. And they’ll deliver almost anywhere in Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts. Order online, 24/7. If you’re not home when the delivery arrives, they’ll leave it packed in ice. Minimum order is $10, and there’s a $1.15 service charge. Don’t forget the monthly specials (two kinds of tiramisu for $24.99 and something called Chocolate Heaven, $8.49, the day we checked).

Ryan’s Market
70 Brown Street, Wickford
294-9571, ryansmarket.com
Ryan’s will deliver your groceries one day a week, Wednesday, if you phone your order in on Tuesday. Delivery is available to North and South Kingstown, and East Greenwich. They’ll also assemble your grocery
order if you call it in, have it waiting for you and bring it to your car.

Stop & Shop
800-573-2763, peapod.com
Stop & Shop delivers through their Internet affiliate, Peapod. Call their 800 number to order, or if you get a craving for Ben and Jerry’s at two in the morning, you can order it on the company’s website, which also offers coupons and specials. Minimum order is $50. For orders over $100 there’s a $6.95 fee; under $100, it’s $9.95.

They’ll only carry your bags. But sometimes that’s enough.
