Houston is a sprawling city, which makes the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey even more disastrous. Here are some small ways Rhode Islanders can help those in need.

Eat Ice Cream, Listen to Music and Help Houston: The Pop Emporium of Popular Culture in Providence hosts a pioneer of psychedelic rock, Roky Erickson, alongside an ice cream social with Rhode Island themed gourmet popsicles from Mamas Pop Shop. A portion of the proceeds will go towards the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund.

Give People a Home and the Bare Necessities: More than 30,000 people are now homeless in Houston as a result of the devastating floods. Donate to the Houston Coalition for the Homeless to help these people garner access to bare necessities.

Help a Furry Friend in Need: Austin Pets Alive is providing ways for pet lovers to donate money, pet care items or to even foster the numerous pets of Houston who are in need of help. They even have an Amazon wishlist to make your contribution simple and effective.

Help a Child in Need: Save the Children specializes in helping kids with every day challenges and more extreme ones. Forty percent of people housed in shelters in Texas as a result of Harvey are children, and have specialized needs that need to be met.
