Natalie Thompson’s mantra is: what you put on your body is just as important what you put in your body. Her beachy-farmhouse (and might I add chic) shop in the sleepy little ocean town of Warren, opened just last week. Inside, you can find a treasure trove of local ingredient, fair trade certified, organic and sustainably made beauty products that will leave you feeling flawless.

What is the significance of your business name, the Peyton Co., and what does the logo represent?

Well our son’s name is Peyton, so that is where Peyton Company comes from. As for the logo, my husband and I designed it late one evening. We are both Leo’s which are represented by the two lions. Within them, is the shield with the name which represents Peyton.

What is the inspiration and backstory behind the Peyton Company?

Peyton was born with skin issues and allergen sensitivities. While the doctors were telling me to put chemicals and toxins found in traditional products on his skin, I realized that there had to be a better solution and different alternative. Making these products and having this business essentially came from a necessity. Plus, in high school I worked in a small apothecary where I learned a lot about natural healing, herbs and wellness. My mom is also a Reiki Master so I kind of grew up in this element, too. I thought to myself, “Let’s just do this!” I cashed in my 401-K and started a really small business with a few body butters that helped to heal [Peyton’s] rashes and the business just took off from there.

Do you make your own products? What are some of the ingredients used and where do you get them?

Yes, it’s all me! I have a designated little lab area at home, but within the next six months I will be creating a space here at the shop instead. I have also started talking with another company that may eventually mass produce products for me to bring to other places like Amazon. Ingredients such as bees wax, honey and herbs are always local ingredients that I use. I try to keep my money as close as I can to this area.

Do you have any future plans for the shop?

We will be launching our Rustic and Wildcrafted (RAW) beauty bar which will be a seasonal offering using food grade ingredients. There are so many do-it-yourself remedies that people can do at home, but they don’t always have access to the ingredients that they may need. So, I thought that it would be great to have an offering of three items that are in-season and are sustainable per day. There are so many things you can make with berries, so they would be perfect for this take-and-go concept.

Why open a storefront in Warren?

I love the community here. It is close knit and has a small-town feel. The people in this area seem to really rally around the local businesses and support them. I truly feel very embraced here.

I see you carry other products include knit items and floral arrangements. Where do those come from?

One of the places I work with is Under the Sun Farm, a woman owned and operated farm in North Dighton. I met [the owner] through the farmers market scene and from there, I became her East Bay CSA location for pickup. We are using their herbs in our RAW beauty bar and will carry some of their fresh produce including strawberries in here. As for flowers, they come from Wren. They are just beautiful and add something different to the store. The crochet items are actually created by a local girl in Warren from Love Life Gifts. We are truly a bed, bath beauty and body shop.

What are the best-selling products?

The ache and pain relief cream was created for someone who had a multitude of diseases. I did my research and found that the ingredients used had many benefits and worked wonders. Many people wanted to use it, including a chiropractor. That right there gave me complete validation – it’s my feel-good product. The sea buckthorn overnight face magic oil is unique. One drop can cover your whole face and is non-greasy. The other thing that people go crazy over is the mermaid hair spray. It is a texturizing spray that will put beachy waves in your locks. It has sea kelp, tangerine geranium and argon oil in it. Although these ingredients are not necessary local, I always try to buy them from small businesses.

What about your favorite?

I would say the dew drops facial hydration mist. From day one I have sold this product. It is a light weight facial moisturizer that you can use even as a finisher over your makeup and always makes your skin look good.

You can buy products from the Peyton Company online, at their shop at 7 Child St., in Warren or at the Hope and Main market every other week.
