The FIXX – FIXXmas Tour @ Greenwich Odeum
Dec 7 @ 8:00 pm
The FIXX - FIXXmas Tour @ Greenwich Odeum | East Greenwich | Rhode Island | United States

For FIXX fans everywhere, the spirit of the season is about to embrace us once again. After a triumphant summer run of dates that saw the band dig deep into its legacy, this year’s FIXXmas Tour promises to surprise and please even the most ardent FIXX fan. Joining us on this year’s jaunt which kicks off on December 3rd in Alexandria, Virginia is the acclaimed singer/songwriter, Royston Langdon.

FIXX lead singer Cy Curnin says “The real gift of this time of year is to give ourselves to each other. In this spirit, we hope you’ll join us in celebration of all things good…music, merriment, humanity and the true spirit of Christmas!”

The FIXX has been often heralded as one of the most innovative bands to come out of the MTV era. Instantly recognizable, The FIXX sound is unmistakably unique and stands out among the thousands of artists filling the airwaves. Songs such as “One Thing Leads To Another”, “Red Skies” and “Saved By Zero” remain everyday staples in television, film and on radio stations that continue to break new acts inspired by the era that The FIXX helped to define. The FIXX were then, and still are now; Cy Curnin on vocals, Rupert Greenall on keyboards, Jamie West-Oram on guitar, Adam Woods on drums, and bassist Dan K. Brown.

Royston Langdon has been a performer for as long as he can remember. Most noted for his time as the lead singer and principal songwriter in Spacehog, formed in the fall of 1995, Langdon and his bandmates released the commercially and critically acclaimed debut album Resident Alien, which spawned the hit single “In the Meantime.” Three more albums followed over the next eighteen years. Since then, Langdon has embarked on a non-stop solo career which most recently has seen the release of his album “Everything’s Dandy” under the pseudonym LEEDS, named after his hometown in England. Currently, he is busy at work recording new songs for an EP coming in 2020.

Rhode Island mOnthly Presents Odeum Classic Films: It's a Wonderful Life @ Greenwich Odeum | East Greenwich | Rhode Island | United States

Join us for an annual Odeum tradition – It’s a Wonderful Life!

George Bailey spends his entire life giving up his big dreams for the good of his town, Bedford Falls, as we see in flashback. But in the present, on Christmas Eve, he is broken and suicidal over the misplacing of an $8,000 loan and the machinations of the evil millionaire Mr. Potter. His guardian angel, Clarence, falls to Earth, literally, and shows him how his town, family, and friends would have turned out if he had never been born. George meant so much to so many people; should he really throw it all away?

MATISYAHU @ Greenwich Odeum
Dec 27 @ 8:00 pm
MATISYAHU @ Greenwich Odeum | East Greenwich | Rhode Island | United States

Singer-songwriter Matisyahu has been on journey inward for more than a decade. The journey has been private and public. The journey has at times been explicitly external, even while being driven by internal change. Now nearly thirteen years after the release of his first studio record, Matisyahu and his band have done something unmatched in his past repertoire; they have crafted that journey into a musically thematic eight song movement.

The band features longtime guitarist Aaron Dugan, Dub Trio bassist and drummer Stu Brooks and Joe Tomino, and keyboard virtuoso BigYuki — and the journey starts with them. The band improvised for hours in the studio with Matisyahu watching on as an admirer without singing a single lyric. Out of the improvisations grew melodic themes, rhythmic peaks and valleys, blissful and proto-song guitar passages, deep dub meditations and ultimately an inspired instrumental record until itself. Only once the band had crafted this musical narrative, did Matisyahu begin to work on a lyrical narrative of his own — a lyrical narrative that is simultaneously informed and integrated with the music yet driven by Matisyahu’s own personal journey. The result is “Undercurrent”, Matisyahu’s sixth studio album.

The record is musically Matisyahu’s most courageous release to date and lyrically his most vulnerable.

Everclear @ Greenwich Odeum | East Greenwich | Rhode Island | United States

Art Alexakis – Vocals, Guitar
Dave French – Guitar
Freddy Herrera – Bass
Brian Nolan – Drums

Considering Everclear has written and recorded some truly iconic ’90s alt-rock hits, it would be all too easy these days for the band to be a victim of its past successes, relegated to performing as a glorified jukebox, existing to satisfy the nostalgic cravings of Gen Xers everywhere. But singer-guitarist Art Alexakis isn’t about to start phoning it in now.

Although the band hasn’t released a new studio album since 2015’s triumphant Black Is The New Black, Everclear continues to tour actively. And while it’s a virtual surety that no Everclear gig is complete without a rendition of “Santa Monica” and “Father of Mine,” lately the band has found that exploring the full range of past material—especially the “deep cuts”—not only gives fans a rare treat, it also injects new life into the band’s live dynamic.

“By mixing it up and digging into the catalogue, it still makes it fun and relevant for us, and I think for the fans as well,” says Alexakis. “It’s still important to play the hits, but by playing those other songs as well, it makes it all seem more vibrant and real. Even though I recorded some of those songs 20 years ago, I haven’t played them in a long time, so it’s like reinventing the wheel. I’m having more fun now than I have in years. I think all of us are.”

Pure Prairie League @ Greenwich Odeum
Feb 23 @ 7:00 pm
Pure Prairie League @ Greenwich Odeum | East Greenwich | Rhode Island | United States

From their beginnings in mid-Sixties Ohio as a group of friends playing cover tunes to the present-day unit featuring founding member/pedal-steel innovator John David Call, veteran bassist Mike Reilly, propulsive drummer Scott Thompson and guitar ace Donnie Clark, Pure Prairie League continues to embellish the rich forty-three-year history of one of Country-Rock’s pioneering forces. As one reviewer recently wrote: “PPL’s sound combines sweet memories with edgy, contemporary muscle. Their vocals are as strong as Kentucky moonshine and the musicianship and performance skills are as sharp as a straight razor”.

Their eponymous first album – featuring the Norman Rockwell/Saturday Evening Post cover that introduced fans to PPL’s trademark cowpoke “Sad Luke” – has been hailed as a “major early influence in the emerging popularity of Country-Rock music”. Their second effort, the multiplatinum “Bustin’ Out” brought us the Craig Fuller-penned classic “Amie”, along with other gems of the genre. With “Two Lane Highway”, nine more albums and countless shows, a legacy has been forged and enriched during the ‘70s and 80’s, highlighting contributions from several noteworthy members, including original co-founder George Ed Powell, Cincinnati’s legendary Goshorn Brothers, Country Hall of Famers Gary Burr and Vince Gill, award-winning writer Jeff Wilson (three Top-twenty singles) and a host of other guest appearances from Chet Atkins, Johnny Gimble, Emmy Lou Harris, David Sanborn, Eagle Don Felder, Nicolette Larson, and many more. Now in their fifth decade, Pure Prairie League continues to lead the way for the new generation of Country/Rockers such as Keith Urban, Nickel Creek, Wilco, Counting Crows and so many others that cite PPL as a major influence.

As crisp and clean as spring water and as comfortable as a well-worn cowboy shirt, Pure Prairie League still brings it all back home.

Lucy Kaplansky and Richard Shindell @ Greenwich Odeum

Lucy Kaplansky and Richard Shindell @ Greenwich Odeum | East Greenwich | Rhode Island | United States

We are thrilled to announce the release of my first solo album in six years, EverydayStreet. It’s the most acoustically based, intimate album I’ve ever made: just me and multi-instrumentalist Duke Levine (J. Geils Band, Mary Chapin Carpenter), and features harmonies by my old friends Shawn Colvin and Richard Shindell.

My fans have been asking me for awhile to make a record that’s reflective of my live shows, stripped down, spontaneous, acoustic, with the feel of one of my concerts. The songs were recorded over four days with my long-time collaborator Duke Levine on acoustic guitar, electric guitar, mandola, National guitar, and octave mandolin, and me on acoustic guitar, mandolin and piano. These are genuine performances, many were captured in one take. As a result, the sound and feel of the album is more acoustic, even bluegrassy at times, with all the intimacy of a live show.
