Presented by the Department of Theatre, Dance and Film, the Providence College Dance Company will perform its annual Blackfriars Dance Concert on Friday, November 15 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, November 16 at 2 p.m. in the Angell Blackfriars Theatre. The production will present original dance works created by both guest choreographers and PC dance faculty, all under the direction of Dr. Wendy Oliver.
Choreographers for fall 2019 include Jean Appolon, Orlando Hernández, Gisela Creus, Danielle Davidson, Cayley Christoforou and Dr. Wendy Oliver. Hernández, a Rhode Island-based tap dancer, choreographer and teacher, will present a contemporary tap piece for eight dancers. Davidson, assistant professor of dance at The Boston Conservatory at Berklee, will present a modern dance to the music of Ben Cuba, as well as The Chromatics. Creus, who has taught beginners to professionals in various genres across Barcelona, London and the U.S., now visits PC to premiere a piece of work “A Breath,” to “Mauer Blues” by Federico Albanese. Wendy Oliver, professor of dance at PC and director of the PC Dance Company, will present “Debate,” a dance building on the tension and humor of political debates, with an original soundtrack by Gabe Luxton (Assistant Technical Director), as well as music by Christopher Huggins.
