Forty-two different world-renowned and emerging classical music artists will perform at some of Newport’s best and most prestigious locations — yes, we’re talking about the mansions — including the Breakers, the Elms, the Chinese Tea House, Belcourt Castle and more. Catch the sunrise at the Marble House while the tunes awaken you from a sleepy summertime slumber.

2018 Summer Art Camp @ Warwick Center for the Arts

Make Art Camp part of your summer plans! This year we’re excited to offer favorites such as “Sculpture” and “Wearable Art” as well as several new and creative classes such as “Sports Cartooning” and “Animal Art.” Our flexible schedule offers three new workshops every day. Camp days are divided into three workshops: 9-11 a.m., 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., and 2-4 p.m.

Flash Fiction @ Ada Books

We will begin the course by reading a piece of “flash” fiction and discussing the use of story elements such as character’s wants/desires, conflict, character’s growth/change and resolution. We’ll also briefly discuss figurative language and author’s style. Each week, students will write one short piece of fiction with a maximum of 500 words.

By the end of the course, students will have generated 5-6 500-word fictional pieces.

Instructor Kristen Falso-Capaldi’s work has appeared in Good Housekeeping, Volume 1 Brooklyn, Joyland, Jenny Magazine, Ripen the Page, 3Elements Review, See the Elephant and on The Other Stories Podcast.

National Grid Energy Innovation Hub @ Energy Innovation Hub

The National Grid Energy Innovation Hub is a collaborative, community space designed to elevate the conversation around the future of energy and the environment. The Hub offers interactive exhibits where Rhode Islanders can learn how they can take action towards creating a clean energy future.Exhibits include information about energy savings tips, energy efficiency, renewable energy, electric vehicles, connected solutions (demand response), and ways to reduce energy bills. Guests can sign up for a no-cost home energy assessment and learn about the impact their energy choices have on the ultimate goal of a clean energy future.

The Hub is open to the public Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. By appointment on Thursday. Groups are welcome.

Newport BayCamp with Save The Bay @ Save the Bay Center

Children who love the water and adventure will love Save The Bay’s week-long summer camps in Newport. Save The Bay’s week-long BayCamp for children who have completed grades two to four promises hands-on, Bay-centric activities that are as much fun as they are educational. Headquartered at beautiful Fort Adams, BayCamp blends age-appropriate marine science and environmental education with water-based fun. Stepping onboard one of Save The Bay’s marine vessels, campers head out to several different islands, including Prudence Island, to explore shorelines and salt marshes, integral breeding ground for fish and waterfowl. They’ll also have plenty of time for snorkeling, swimming and interactive lessons taught by BayCamp counselors. Along the way, they’ll test the quality of the water right from the vessel.

Save The Bay’s week-long BayCamp for children who have completed kindergarten and first grade promises hands-on, Bay-centric activities that are as much fun as they are educational. Headquartered at the Bay Center at Fields Point, Junior BayCamp blends age-appropriate marine science and environmental education with shoreline fun. Inside the classrooms, campers interact with the marine life that call Narragansett Bay home, through touch tanks and counselor-led crafts and games, while the rocky shoreline of Fields Point gives campers the perfect place to explore critters and natural habitats nearby, building valuable knowledge about the Bay’s natural beauty, resources, and what they can do to help preserve it.

The Artists of Gallery One will host a summer exhibition at the Westerly Public Library, Hoxie Gallery, 44 West Broad Street, Westerly, on view Monday, July 2 to Thursday, July 26. There will be an opening reception on Thursday, July 5 from 5 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.

The work is by a diverse group of mid-career artists who use current modes of expression in a variety of contemporary media. Member artists include Catherine Christiano, Ellen Gaube, Deborah Hornbake, Gray Jacobik, Judith Barbour Osborne, T. Willie Raney, Diana Rogers, Rick Silberberg and Jill Vaughn.

Come Play at The Courthouse This Summer and Learn the fundamentals of performance, through voice movement and theatrical exploration.This program focuses on introducing students the basic building blocks of performance for the stage.
With an emphasis on creating an ensemble we will work as a group to find our natural voice, ground that voice and our body with breath support. Through exploration of the tools of the actor, their voice, body and emotion we will not only find stage presence and awareness but also foster social interaction and individual expression. Students are encouraged to share something they have prepared in advance on the first day, a song, play an instrument, monologue, dance, comedy routine or any other talent they would like a chance to perform and potentially incorporate into our talent at the end of camp.
