Swap Kids' Costumes for Free and for Charity

Trade in last year’s costume, and you’ll receive a ticket to participate in Macaroni Kid’s second annual National Costume Swap on Oct. 6 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., held at Gigi’s Glitzy Boutique and Tiddlywinks Toys in Coventry.

Halloween is coming up quickly, and every kid needs a costume. While it would be nice to reuse last year’s bumble bee or Spiderman ensemble, what’s the fun in that? Kids look forward to deciding what they’ll dress up as every year; plus, they’re growing, so odds are last year’s disguise won’t even fit. But there’s a way your child can choose a great getup at no cost to you.

All you have to do is trade in last year’s costume, and you’ll receive a ticket to participate in Macaroni Kid-Washington County,’s second annual National Costume Swap on Oct. 6 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., held at Gigi’s Glitzy Boutique and Tiddlywinks Toys in Coventry. Gigi’s and Tiddlywinks have teamed up to offer parents and kids the opportunity to save money by swapping costumes with other families. Simply drop off your swappable items at Gigi’s/Tiddlywinks at 2075 Nooseneck Hill Rd. in Coventry during business hours (Thurs.-Fri. 10 a.m.-5 p.m.), and you’ll get a swap ticket for Saturday’s event. There are also two other drop-off locations: Capture the Moment Photography at 24 Newport Ave. in Pawtucket, and KBG Photography at 22 Bayview Ave., Unit 92 in Stonington, Connecticut.

Not only is swapping costumes a money-saver and a greener way to do things, but the event will also benefit the Rhode Island Foster Parents Association. Even parents that do not have a costume to swap are invited to come and pick one out in exchange for a small donation to the RI Foster Parents Association, and all leftover costumes that were not swapped will be donated to the organization. During the event, participants will also be treated to a 20 percent discount on all Tiddlywinks Toys and Gigi’s Glitzy Boutique merchandise.

The event will also accept donations for Good Night, Sleep Tight, an organization with a mission to make each and every child placed into foster care feel special by providing them with a way to keep their personal belongings safe and transport them along their journey.

Don’t disguise your generosity at the National Costume Swap. Trade in your costumes while giving back, and you’ll be declared angel (even if you’re not wearing wings)!
