RI Press Association Awards

The Rhode Island Press Awards were announced Friday, and a whole host of people from around the state won for great writing in various categories. That’s nice, but what’s really great is that we won – quite a few, in fact. So here’s a shamelessly self-promotional shout-out to Nicole Maranhas, who won first place for a business story for her excellent feature on the fishing industry, Breaking Point, which ran last December; and to Markham Starr, the photographer whose beautiful pictures of the Point Judith fleet illustrated the story. One of those shots, in an inspired last-minute decision by our art director Ellen Dessloch, ended up on the cover, which also won first place.
And that’s not all. We won two other first places, in arts and entertainment writing, and for a personality photo;  and a bunch of second and third places for a total of 11 awards. Check the full results here. Nice job, everyone. I’m proud to work with you all.
