When Life Gives You Snow, Make Snow Ice Cream

My kids loved mixing a bowl of snow with whole milk, sugar and vanilla extract, and topping it with Dave’s Coffee syrup.

Snow days at home with the kids are my favorite days. We pass the time doing crafts, playing with toys and games and watching TV and movies (okay, and maybe a little work mixed in). Yesterday, during the #BombCyclone, I contemplated taking my four-year-old outside to play, but after polling my social media community about just how bad it was out there, the verdict was a big no. Hypothermia and frostbite are not worth a romp in the white stuff during bombogenesis.

We needed something else to do besides endless screen time. A quick google search of snow day activities brought up a recipe for making snow ice cream. And so, we brought the snow inside, mixed it up with whole milk, sugar and vanilla extract, then topped it with Dave’s Coffee syrup. Here’s the recipe and some photos to help you make snow ice cream at home.

Snow Ice Cream Recipe

1 cup of whole milk or half and half

½ cup sugar

1 tsp vanilla

8 cups of fresh, clean snow

Blend the milk, sugar and vanilla together in a bowl until sugar dissolves. Scoop eight cups of fresh, clean snow into a bowl. Add the sugar and milk mix to the snow and stir until it has the consistency of ice cream. Scoop servings into bowls, top with a drizzle of Dave’s Coffee syrup and enjoy!
