While waiting for a fresh pot to brew, step into the shower and enjoy the other perks of coffee. Java is a Rhode Island-based skincare company that combines organic green coffee extract and roasted coffee with essential argan and almond oils to nourish, tighten and protect skin while also reducing cellulite and stretch marks. “Java is the only skincare line that has both caffeine and antioxidants, and you really need both to make a substantial difference,” says CEO Stephanie Additon.
The Rhode Island native who lives in Narragansett spent a lot of time curating the coffee used for Java. And she knows her beans. She and her husband, Mark Additon, own the Wickford coffee shop Updike’s Newtowne, where they procure and grind their own beans for cups of joe, and they also roast coffee and use proprietary methods to create the green coffee extract for use in the body products. “What was really important to us was the antioxidant value and the level of caffeine we could extract from those beans,” says Additon. “We chose a farm in Guatemala that is Smithsonian certified, which is the highest level of certification that coffee can receive, meaning that it’s bird- and rainforest-friendly, organic and fair trade.”
You will understand every ingredient on the label, and that's a good thing, since many skincare products contain chemicals that aren’t so good for you. “Every ingredient was chosen on purpose for a specific benefit to your skin and from the best places and plants you can get them,” Additon says. “There are no toxins, no parabens, no animal testing, no sulfates, nothing, just plants.”
Java Skincare includes four products: body wash, coffee bean and raw sugar scrub, body serum and a body bar. Products are available on the website and Alayne White spas. javaskincare.com
