The former home of the American Locomotive Company (aka ALCO), which is in the midst of a major rehab, was a fitting setting for the Providence Preservation Society’s annual Winter Bash. The hip urban fete attracted twenty-something Providence newbies, as well as long-time supporters of the organization. All told, the event raised $40,000 to benefit the society’s preservation advocacy and education programs.
More than a thousand revelers flocked to Rhodes-on-the-Pawtuxet for VSA arts of Rhode Island’s sixteenth annual Mardi Gras ball—one of the biggest parties outside of Louisiana featuring Cajun and Zydeco music. Attendees hit the dance floor in creative costumes, sampled Cajun and Creole cuisine and raised thousands of dollars for the organization’s arts programs for children and adults with disabilities.
