Get Up Close to the U.S.’s First Wind Farm
You can see the farm from a high-speed ferry tour on October 14.
The first offshore wind farm is set to go live off the coast of Block Island next month, and you can read all about it in the October issue of Rhode Island Monthly, which is on newsstands now.
Now you can also see the turbines and hear from the people behind the effort firsthand. Rhode Island Sea Grant has organized a guided tour of the wind farm on Friday, October 14, as part of Sea Grant Week. The three-hour tour will run from 2-5 p.m. on a high-speed ferry.
The tour costs $40, and Rhode Island Sea Grant asks that you sign up before October 7. They recommend you park at the Newport Gateway Visitor Center before heading over to State Pier number 9, at the intersection of Washington Street and Long Wharf, by 1:45 p.m. for the start of the tour. You can sign up for tickets here.
