Forty Years of Photographs

Newport photographer Peter Sweet showcases his body of work at (gallerie ellipsis).

Peter Sweet is bringing the world to Newport in his forthcoming (gallerie ellipsis) exhibition, "Passing Through: Forty Years of Photographs." The local photographer's work, shot in far-flung locales, includes prints from Kodachrome and Ektachrome slides and digital images, all of which are one of a kind and will not be reproduced. The opening night is scheduled for this Thursday, February 27, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Here's what gallery director Christine Manory had to say about Sweet's work: "Many of the pieces in his exhibit are from the '70s and '80s, and are printed from film slides. His digital work comprises a period where he has only been able to shoot with point and shoot cameras, after a stroke left his right arm paralyzed. He's really a very interesting person and personal friend of mine."

The exhibition runs through March 9 at (gallerie ellipsis), 35 Franklin St., Newport, 401-714-5649,
