Fashion is a way of telling your story through a piece of clothing, so we took to the streets of PVD to learn more about the people (and the way they dress) who call the city home.

3It seems that boyfriend jeans and a simple top are a fashion must-have when meandering down Thayer Street. Emma Welch is pictured wearing boyfriend jeans, white sneakers and a white crop-top. She likes to go for the minimalistic style. “I like really simple things and then adding a statement bracelet or necklace, or really big hoop earrings,” she says. She also likes to shop for her wardrobe at Savers and thrift stores. It seems that boyfriend jeans and a simple top are a fashion must-have when meandering down Thayer Street. 4Over at the Brown University campus, Samantha Lee was spotted wearing boyfriend jeans (definitely a trend!) with lace flares, a black jean jacket, a maroon shirt and gold sandals. She likes to be comfortable, but at the same time, she wears clothes that have an edgy design to them, too.Over at the Brown University campus, Samantha Lee was spotted wearing boyfriend jeans (definitely a trend!) with lace flares, a black jean jacket, a maroon shirt and gold sandals. 5Rhode Island School of Design summer-resident and Roger Williams University student, Kat Gunther, is pictured wearing green combat boots, athletic wear and ear phones dazzled with flowers that she designed herself! “I love pairing a lot of bright colors together, but offsetting them with the darker, drabber stuff,” she says. “I also like wearing fashion statements where people ask ‘why?’ but I also wear things that are understated, too.” Kat tends to shop at local thrift stores because she can find so many unexpected things there and most everything is well-aged, but she also shops at Urban Outfitters as well.Rhode Island School of Design summer-resident and Roger Williams University student, Kat Gunther, is pictured wearing green combat boots, athletic wear and ear phones dazzled with flowers that she designed herself! “I love pairing a lot of bright colors together, but offsetting them with the darker, drabber stuff,” she says. “I also like wearing fashion statements where people ask ‘why?’ but I also wear things that are understated, too.” Kat tends to shop at local thrift stores because she can find so many unexpected things there and most everything is well-aged, but she also shops at Urban Outfitters as well.

6Rhode Island School of Design summer-residents and friends, Maya Jain (left) and Blake Baylor (right) are pictured sporting two different style aesthetics. Maya is wearing a floral jumpsuit with maroon combat boots, while Blake is wearing a turquoise and tan sweater layered over a white-collared shirt, paired with rose-colored shorts and light blue sneakers. “I really like to wear bold colors and bold patterns and I mix things that don’t necessarily ‘go together,’ but I think would look nice together. I tend to mix feminine and masculine a lot and my style is just a big mix of things,” says Maya. Blake, on the other hand, is more drawn to clothing from the 70s and 80s and likes shopping at vintage stores. “I like the color-palettes in those eras and I’m also really interested in Scandinavian style,” Blake says.Rhode Island School of Design summer-residents and friends, Maya Jain (left) and Blake Baylor (right) are pictured sporting two different style aesthetics. Providence is known as the Creative Capital because of its artistic design (hello, wall art), bustling places (Thayer Street and College Hill) and the funky fashion trends popping up on every street corner.
