Fall Book Bash

ASTAL (RIC’s Alliance for the Study and Teaching of Adolescent Literature) hosted their "Fall Book Bash" on the evening of September 29th in celebration of seven Rhode Island authors who have recently had books published in the field: Kelly Easton, Kim Fusco, Mark Peter Hughes, Liza Ketchum, Allen Kurzweil, Rebecca Maizel, and Naomi Zucker.

Each author spoke about their books for a few minutes and then the meet-and-greet sessions began. Students and educators traversed around the Faculty Center, purchasing books and having them signed, while drinking apple cider and munching on some locally grown apples. This was then followed by the semi-famous ASTAL book raffle. With over 350 tickets sold and bundles of wrapped books to be given away (donated in part by Borders Books), many young children, teens and adults were awarded piles of good reads.

The money raised from this event will continue to help run the non-profit ASTAL and create more events for the future, including bringing in more Young Adult authors from around the country to the college and running its annual Writing for Young People Summer Institute program.
