Putting Faith into Action
Alan Tenreiro, President, Mount Saint Charles Academy
Alan Tenreiro graduated from Mount Saint Charles in 1992 and returned twenty-six years later as its president. That was only a few months after he was named 2016 Principal of the Year by the National Association of Secondary School Principals, and he immediately injected the historic Catholic prep school with a spirit of energy and change.
Tenreiro’s oft-stated goal is to make Mount Saint Charles the best secondary school in New England, which would de facto make it one of the best in the country. He has presided over an expansion of the school’s Advanced Placement offerings, an overhaul of the middle and high school curricula, and the launch of signature programs including a varsity equestrian team, a figure skating academy, and a new hockey academy that will propel Mount onto the national stage, all while maintaining its core values: a grounding in faith, individual student attention, and high expectations.
“It sounds audacious for a small school to aspire to national prominence, but all the ingredients are here for Mount to make the leap,” he said. “I’m grateful for a chance to give back to the place that gave me such a great start in life.”
