Cool Rainwear on a Soggy Day

A Providence company is making rain capes for the "urban traveler."

A Providence company is looking to make dodging the raindrops chic.

Cleverhood is manufacturing rain capes for urban travelers like bicyclists, featuring fabrics from plaid to corduroy. And they're made in the United States.

"We set out to do something smart that would put good people to work," Susan Mocarski, the creator of Cleverhood, said in a news release. “There's so much creativity in Providence and this is the region that once lead the world in the garment industry. We're working to put it all together on our, admittedly, small scale. We figure we'll offer something good to people who take the 'rain-or-shine' approach to life–and small business."

The line debuted at the Providence Bike Expo in October, according to a news release. And earlier this month, the line, which features a waterproof corduroy rain cape, was celebrated by humorist Amy Sedaris and filmmaker Wes Anderson at a fashion show held by the Corduroy Appreciation Club.

Its first production run is scheduled to come out in a few weeks. For more information, check out the website.
