Climate change bummer

Because I often walk along the Woonasquatucket river banks on my way to and from work, I’ve been struck by the poison ivy plants that grow on the river’s margins.
Can these even be poison ivy? I’ve wondered. They’re so monstrous. But they otherwise look just like the stuff I learned to avoid on Block Island as a child. Needless to say I’ve been too chicken to actually touch them and find out.
Well here’s an article in today’s projo that confirms their identity. Why is it always the plants that we wish would shrivel up and die that seem to thrive as we wreck our environment – and not, say, lavender? Imagine what that could do for our riverbanks…
