What is LSVT BIG?

Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT BIG) was developed in the 1980s to help the million-plus individuals in the United States affected by Parkinson’s disease and other neurological disorders. These individuals have a higher rate of falls, movement disorders and decreased ADL function. LSVT BIG is the only evidence-based treatment that has been shown to improve quality of life.

What is the LSVT BIG Treatment Program?

Exercise is medicine! Treatment is a four-week process. Therapy sessions are one hour a day, four days a week. Individuals must carry over exercises taught. Homework is a must! Therapists will instruct patients in standardized exercises and personalized functional tasks. Focus for this treatment is on BIGGER MOVEMENTS and improving quality of life.

This service is covered by most insurance, and Cedar Crest and Cedar Home Health have received the LSVT BIG Certification. This certification provides specialized treatment to improve function and quality of life for individuals with Parkinson’s disease. Cedar Crest is excited to offer this unique program to our patients both at Cedar Crest in Cranston, Rhode Island, and our Cedar Home Health division.

Cedar Crest’s team is excited to provide this service to our Rhode Island community at home or in a skilled setting. Please contact Cedar Crest or Cedar Home Health for more information. Community referrals are welcome.
