Bocce in the City

Have you ever walked down Wickenden Street and wondered about that giant plot of gravel scattered with green benches that’s located right next to Tazza? Well I have. I always assumed it was just a really cool public space created for the sole purpose of outdoor enjoyment and a place for workers in the area to escape to for lunch on particularly gorgeous days.

But apparently it has another use as well. I just stumbled across this post on the Shop Downcity blog announcing sign-ups for the Providence Downcity Bocce League. According to the post, players meet weekly for evening bocce matches right on that plot of gravel. Amazing! I can’t think of a more pleasant way to spend an evening in the city.

All you need to join is four committed players, and sign-ups run through Saturday, May 15. So hurry!
