Bermuda Bound!

If you happen to be one of the lucky ones who can score this Friday off, get thee to Newport! Friday marks the start of the semi-annual Newport to Bermuda race. Roughly 200 boats are competing in the 635-mile, 100-plus-year-old race, which can take anywhere from three to six days to complete (depending on your boat, crew and, of course, the weather). Speaking of weather, Friday is going to be gorgeous — ideal for throwing back a Dark and Stormy (or four) — the national drink of Bermuda — on the lawn of Castle Hill. If I can skip out early, I’ll be there; I’ve got friends racing on two boats ("Avenir" and "Aurora"). I wish them both luck, safe seas… and wind!

For those who can’t make it, here’s  a no-fail recipe for a Dark and Stormy:

2 ounces Gosling’s Black Seal rum
4 ounces ginger beer

Mix ingredients together in an old-fashioned glass over ice, and serve. Cheers.
