Seeking Shelter

The Potter League for Animals has long been regarded as one of the top shelters in the state, with its slew of services to help homeless animals in Newport County and beyond find loving homes. But with the opening of a new 19,500-square-foot facility, it’s been attracting much more attention. The green building is on track to become LEED certified, built with environmentally friendly materials like bamboo, recycled-tire floors, a vegetative roof, and high-efficiency water fixtures and appliances. The animals benefit from the new design as well, with enclosed rooms replacing the chain-link pens, larger play areas  and noise-absorbing walls. And the Potter League is now able to house 118 cats, forty-six dogs and twenty-two small animals at any time, giving many more pets the promise of a better life.
