A young Paul Newman, real big, outdoors
It actually started at the beginning of June, but this week Movies on the Block, that fabulous free Thursday evening event in downtown Providence, kicks into gear with a screening of The Sting.
Not only that, but it’s only one of TWO movies that will project Paul Newman and Robert Redford onto a big screen right next to Tazza Cafe this summer. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid plays July 2. My summer will already be complete and it won’t even be Independence Day.
For more info on this fine series, check out the web site, or just cruise on down Westminster Street at dusk any Thursday through the end of September. Bring a blanket, a bottle of water, your kids or just understandably untrammeled excitement at the thought of seeing Ferris Bueller’s Day Off or Jaws 3-D with a bunch of other people under summer stars. Child-friendly offerings include Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe; the season ends with Sixteen Candles on September 24. I don’t know who came up with this year’s line-up, but it’s genius.
