Pool Day Staycations

Places where you can lounge by the pool for a day and enjoy other warm-weather activities.

While summer travel is always marvelous, sometimes we just don’t feel like packing away half of our household, battling traffic and paying the price of hotel stays. There are several local places that feel like a vacation, with minimal planning stress involved. If you love the water, but hate the sand, then this pool round-up is for you.

The place: Hillside Country Club, 82 Hillside Ave., Rehoboth, 508-252-9761, hillsidecountryclub.com

Amenities: Take a day off from work, and dad can golf while mom and the kids enjoy the pool, or couples and friends can do both in one day. The nine-hole course can be played in about two hours. Lounge by the outdoor, kid-friendly pool for just $10 a day (open to the public Mon.–Fri.; call on weekends, as it is based on membership). The pool boasts two waterslides and a kids area with a cascading mushroom fountain. Hillside also has an immaculate spa where you can schedule a massage in a private room, or a mani and pedi in front of picture windows that overlook the course. Finish the day with lunch or dinner and cocktails at the on-site restaurant La Collina or outdoor, course-side tikki bar.

The scene: A family-friendly place on the course and by the pool (open every day 9:30 a.m.–6 p.m. through Labor Day), but also perfect for a guys or gals day out, and bachelor and bachelorette parties.

The price: Golf nine holes for $12–$34/day, depending on day and time of the week and cart options. Spend time at the pool for $10/day per person Mon.–Fri. Or choose a package, like the Wine and Dine plus Nine: Nine holes of golf for two with a cart, two entrees and a bottle of wine in the restaurant for $110.
