More Free Music: WBRU’s Summer Concert Series
The event, held at Waterplace Park, kicks off this week.
Last week, we reported on the kickoff of the Burnside Music Series, a fun, free event in Kennedy Plaza on Thursday nights through summer. A few blocks away, WBRU and the city of Providence hosts another musical attraction during the month of July: the Friday night Summer Concert Series.
The shows are a great way to catch local performers and up-and-coming national bands. The bands’ demographics definitely skew young, so bring a teenager. (The ‘Gansett tallboys for sale skew just right, though.)
Each week has a strong attraction. This Friday, we’ll early-bird it to catch Cannibal Ramblers, a rollicking trio from little Rhody that’s opening for headliner Unlikely Candidates.
July 28’s headliner, Dreamers, holds the title for the most stuck-in-your-head single of the summer, “Sweet Disaster.”
August 4th brings in Marian Hill, perhaps the best-known performer of the Summer Concert Series. The official video for her single “Down” has a staggering 27 million views on YouTube.
The series closes out with headliner SWMRS, another propagator of catchy summer anthems.
Shows kick off at 7:15. See the full Summer Concert Series schedule below.
