House Lust: A Waterfront Charmer in Portsmouth

We love this place for its open shelving, Venetian plaster and wide-plank floors. Oh, and the view. That's nice, too.

Gotta love a place that’s on-trend and homey, too.

This Portsmouth gem on Oliver Hazard Perry Road, which has been on the market for a little more than a month, is the poster child for “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” The yellow clapboard Cape is unassuming from the street. But once you get inside, juicy details emerge — think: wide-plank floors, walls textured with Venetian plaster and custom lighting.

The showstopper is the kitchen, though, with new appliances, a copper farmhouse sink and open shelving for pottery and glassware. Just outside the open-concept living space is a porch with unobstructed views of the Sakonnet River. A pretty stone wall is the cherry on top of this character-filled house by the water. So is the private beach access.
