Newport Rotary Club Benefit Match @ Newport Polo

The Newport Polo Club will host the 28th annual charity match to benefit the Newport Rotary Club and local 501-c-3 organizations to kick-off the summer season on Saturday, May 26 at 5 p.m.

Tickets are sold by the Newport Rotary Club at the entry gates ($10/adult, kids 12 and younger free) on game day. Advanced ticket sales are available from the participating organizations below. 100% of proceeds from ticket sales will support the participating civic and charitable organizations.

The classic six-chukker match will begin at 5 p.m., featuring local teams competing. Entry gates will open at 4 p.m. The event is open to the public, taking place at the International Polo Grounds at Glen Farm, 250 Linden Lane in Portsmouth. All are welcome to attend.

Organizations are invited to plan a day at polo for their supporters, hosted by Newport Polo at the International Polo Grounds. Opportunities to participate are open to qualified 501-3c organizations. Two benefit matches are scheduled for this purpose this year: May 26 and July 15. Download the guidelines to participate Here. Established in 1995 with funding from the Rhode Island Foundation, Connecting for Children and Families (CCF) is a community-based, non-profit organization located in Woonsocket, one of Rhode Island’s core urban cities. Our mission, to transform the lives of Woonsocket children through high quality educational opportunities and family support, is accomplished through strong community partnerships and advocacy.

After six periods, called chukkers, the match will conclude with the Veuve Clicquot Champagne Toast and Trophy Presentation, as well as an autograph signing to meet the players, and a special Après Polo celebration…a Bialowieza Forest Boar Roast, by advanced reservation only.

During the match, a weekly door prize drawing of a magnum of Veuve Clicquot Champagne and prize for the Best Tailgate from Stella Artois will be awarded. Specialty vendors and concessionaires will be present in the Hospitality village at the polo grounds, including the Twisted Pony Cocktail Bar, Horseshoe Wine Bar, Newport Polo Pro Shop, Brahmin among others and gourmet food trucks. Dating back more than 130 years in Newport, the polo matches are one of Newport’s grandest and most popular traditions, a living legacy from the Gilded Age, and open to the public. This is the 27 season of Newport International Polo Series, which has hosted teams from over thirty nations including, Ireland, Germany, Spain, England, Argentina, France, Egypt, India, Australia, Costa Rica, Ghana, Canada, Chile, Jamaica, Nigeria, Portugal, New Zealand, Barbados, Scotland, South Africa, Hungary, Dominican Republic, Netherlands, Kenya, Brazil, China, Italy, Mexico, Sweden, Singapore, Monaco, Morocco, Peru and Poland making its debut.

The Seventh Annual Esophageal Cancer Walk/Run is hosted by The Salgi Esophageal Cancer Research Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity working to raise awareness, encourage early detection and to fund research of esophageal cancer…in hopes of a cure.™

In 2015, The Salgi Esophageal Cancer Research Foundation was able to award esophageal cancer research funding for the very first time! Since 2015, over twenty researchers have inquired about funding.

The Salgi Esophageal Cancer Research Foundation has also raised national AND international awareness since 2011. Your continued support directly impacts and sustains this mission!

The path at Warwick City Park is approximately three miles and guests are encouraged to walk or run at their own pace as the event is a walk/run and not a timed race.

Learn the facts about esophageal cancer

-Esophageal cancer has increased over 600% and is considered the fastest growing cancer in the US.
-Risk factors include:
· Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD, acid reflux, chronic heartburn),
· obesity,
· poor nutrition,
· tobacco use,
· excessive alcohol use,
· Barrett’s esophagus.
-As one of the deadliest cancers, esophageal cancer has an overall five year survival rate of only 18.8%.
-There are no routine or standard screenings to improve early detection of esophageal cancer.
-Symptoms often arise late, once the cancer is considered advanced or “distant” (spread to lymph nodes and other organs.)
-Stage IV esophageal cancer has a survival rate of only 4.6%.
-Despite all of these facts, esophageal cancer research is extremely underfunded.

The official Scottish Team headquarters, Grace Vanderbilt will host a Tartan Shindig on the eve of the match to heighten the celebration of the return of an audience favorite to our international lineup this year.

Grace Vanderbilt, 41 Mary Street, in Newport is a historic boutique hotel two blocks from the delightful waterfront of Newport, and is one of the town’s best kept secrets. Originally built by Alfred Vanderbilt, a scion of the wealthy Vanderbilt family, the 1909 property is a vintage Newport mansion hotel with thirty-three rooms and luxury suites and a lavish spa & fitness center with indoor and outdoor pools and highly-acclaimed restaurant, The Vanderbilt Grill,
