Wine With Dr. Fine: A Benefit for Affordable Healthcare in RI @ SEEN Gallery
Mar 24 @ 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm
Wine With Dr. Fine: A Benefit for Affordable Healthcare in RI @ SEEN Gallery | Pawtucket | Rhode Island | United States

Hey Rhode Island! We are so excited to share that on March 24th, 2018 Healthcare Revolt will be hosting our first ever fundraising event! The event will include live music from the The Horse-Eyed Men, raffles, games, live jazz, a silent auction and a short address from Dr. Fine, former director of the Department of Health, addressing the need for change and our plans for the Rhode Island health care system. We hope many of you can attend and be a part of a new, community-focused chapter of health care in Rhode Island. Tickets will go on sale February 1st, so keep an eye out. We are looking forward to organizing and mobilizing with our community — all the while enjoying each other’s company.

ABOUT US:

Healthcare Revolt is a Rhode Island organized effort in partnership with the George Wiley Center to build a health care system that is for people, not profit. We are organizing health care workers and RI citizens to fight for better patient care in their hospitals, community health centers and practices. We want to build systems of care in each Rhode Island community that are run by and for community members. This includes a plan to provide public, free primary health care for every single Rhode Islander. We’ve already begun in Central Falls where Michael Fine M.D., former director of the Department of Health, has partnered with Blackstone Valley Community Healthcare Inc. to produce the first U.S. population-based primary care establishment that serves an entire neighborhood.

THE PLAN:

Create population-focused healthcare by uniting health care workers to de-industrialize their professional lives.

Allow this united group to lead communities in building multidisciplinary teams and Neighborhood Health Stations. When a critical mass of Neighborhood Health Stations exist, modify existing state law to create the Rhode Island Primary Care Trust, a sustainable financing vehicle for Neighborhood Health Stations and for free, public primary care health services.

What is population-focused health care? Learn more about the Scituate Health Alliance and population focused healthcare here: https://scituatehealthri.org/about/

What is a Neighborhood Health Station? Learn about the station already built in Central Falls here: http://www.rifuture.org/1st-neighborhood-health-station/

*Non-alcoholic options will be available for folks who prefer not to drink.*

Community partners: West Side Wellness, Hungry Goat Kitchen, Gamm Theater, Green Ink, Starbucks, Three Sisters, Gene Hutnak Photography

People’s Power and Light’s Sixteenth Annual Meeting @ Renaissance Providence Downtown Hotel

People's Power and Light's Sixteenth Annual Meeting @ Renaissance Providence Downtown Hotel

On Thursday, May 17, we’re gathering energy sector professionals and friends for a networking event with policy makers and clean power leaders over delicious food and cocktails. This year is another big year for People’s Power and Light as we celebrate our sixteenth year of working to harness the power of energy consumers to speed the transition to a low-carbon future.

Our speaking program will highlight important energy issues as well as the new project developments we’re looking forward to in 2018. This year’s panel will focus on our policy priorities, such as the ongoing National Grid rate increase proposal that has the potential to ramp up electric vehicle adoption, as well as strengthen and modernize our power grid. In addition, the event will shed light on our green power program initiatives that are empowering communities and people to make green and clean energy choices, including Green Municipal Aggregation and Drive Green with People’s Power and Light. With the help of our panel of speakers and guests, we’ll also celebrate this past year’s clean energy achievements and discuss how we can continue to reduce carbon emissions while advancing the Ocean State’s green energy economy.

Stay tuned for exciting speaker announcements!

Providence’s Best Bloody Mary @ Providence Arcade

Providence's Best Bloody Mary @ Providence Arcade

The New England Hemophilia Association and Rhode Island Food Fights will hold their inaugural, Providence’s Best Bloody Mary event on Sunday, May 20 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Providence Arcade at 65 Weybosset Street in downtown Providence. This will be the first bloody mary competition of its kind to pit local bartenders against one another to see whose spicy concoction will be deemed Providence’s Best.

Area bartenders are invited to compete for free and will be granted a table at the event where they can create their bloody mary. Competitors will be provided with vodka from event partner, Tito’s Handmade Vodka, but will bring their own mix, spices and garnishes to make their own unique drink. Those interested in competing in the event can register by visiting the link included below.

Providence bars currently registered include The Black Sheep, The Grange, New Harvest, Rogue Island Kitchen and Bar, TROOP, The Salted Slate and Wara Wara Restaurant.

Tickets to attend Providence’s Best Bloody Mary are $25 and include tokens to taste three-ounce pours. Voting tokens will also be included with a ticket as well as free appetizers and discounts to local downtown shops. Tokens will be collected and later counted to determine the populous vote. The winner of the populous vote for the best taste and garnish will receive a trophy and bragging rights as Providence’s Best Bloody.

The event will be held at the historic Providence Arcade, the first enclosed shopping mall in the United States where attendees at the event can take advantage of shopping before or after the event and enjoy local fare from food trucks parked outside. All proceeds from the event will benefit the New England Hemophilia Association, whose mission is to improve the quality of life for persons with bleeding disorders and their families through education, support and advocacy.

Additional event details are available at http://www.newenglandhemophilia.org/best-bloody-mary.html. Tickets for the event can be purchased at https://providencebestbloody.eventbrite.com.
