Early Learning Center at Meeting Street Hosts Open House on May 31 @ Meeting Street

Parents and children of all abilities, ages six weeks to five-years-old, are invited to an open house at the Early Learning Center at Meeting Street in Providence. Meet child development specialists and learn how they design a curriculum rich in stimulation, learning and play, one that supports each child’s cognitive, physical, social and emotional growth.

The Early Learning Center, located on a green and LEED-Certified campus, offers programs for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, pre-kindergarten children and children with IEPs Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m.-6:00 p.m. Enrollment is now open for September 2018 and space is limited.

Providence Public Library’s fourth annual Exhibition and Program series called HairBrained is focused on hair. Specifically, the exhibition explores the ways in which hair defines and reflects culture, self-identity, agency and politics while the program series, which is inspired by images and texts in the exhibition, will offer cultural programs and educational activities for all ages that explore how and why we have grown, cut, shaved, shaped, woven, adorned and covered the hair on our heads, from centuries ago until today.

The HairBrained exhibition features a selection of items from Providence Public Library’s collections: postcards, photographs, pochoir prints, magazines, historic children’s books, advertising trade cards and more. Items will be on exhibit in the Providence Journal Rhode Island Room on level one from March to June.

Open Interviews at Brown Medicine @ Brown Medicine

Brown Medicine, one of the state’s largest medical group practices with more than 200 physicians in multiple patient care locations in Rhode Island, is holding Open Interviews on Thursday, May 31at its Patient Center located at 375 Wampanoag Trail in the Riverside section of East Providence, R.I. to fill various medical job openings. The event will take place from 5-7 p.m. and is open to the general public.

Brown Medicine human resources representatives will be interviewing for the following positions: Endoscopy Nurse, Endoscopy Technicians, Medical Assistants (primary and specialty care), Medical Secretary (primary and specialty care), and Ambulatory Nurse Care Manager. Qualified applicants are asked to bring a copy of their resume for consideration. Jobs are based in Brown Medicine’s East Providence, Providence, East Greenwich, West Warwick or Warwick sites.

Learn the art of flower photography with Jan Armor in this two-session workshop at Blithewold. In the first meeting we will photograph both indoors in the newly remodeled carriage house and outdoors in the gardens. You will receive many tips and techniques for taking stunning pictures of the flowers you love. In the second session, we will share and review our work. You will learn how to edit and process your best images on the computer.

Workshop: The Principles of Decolonized Interpretation @ St. John's Cathedral

The Center for Reconciliation will host a one-and-a-half day workshop for new and intermediate interpreters. The Principles of Decolonized Interpretation workshop will help participants, regardless of experience level, gain a better understanding of how to organize and lead engaging, thematic and relevant tours for the public. The workshop will be led by Certified Interpretive Guide Trainer, educator and Program Director and Curator at the CFR, Elon Cook Lee. An additional evening session will follow, date TBA. Scholarship are available. Individuals who become official CFR tour guides will receive their $150 deposit back upon completion of their third walking tour for the CFR.
