Providence Public Library’s fourth annual Exhibition and Program series called HairBrained is focused on hair. Specifically, the exhibition explores the ways in which hair defines and reflects culture, self-identity, agency and politics while the program series, which is inspired by images and texts in the exhibition, will offer cultural programs and educational activities for all ages that explore how and why we have grown, cut, shaved, shaped, woven, adorned and covered the hair on our heads, from centuries ago until today.

The HairBrained exhibition features a selection of items from Providence Public Library’s collections: postcards, photographs, pochoir prints, magazines, historic children’s books, advertising trade cards and more. Items will be on exhibit in the Providence Journal Rhode Island Room on level one from March to June.

Adding Life to Years Gala 2018 @ Omni Providence

On Saturday, June 2, join United Methodist Elder Care for our annual “Adding Life to Years” gala, an evening to celebrate our purpose and passion of caring for residents living in our communities. The evening, with a cocktail reception, dinner program, auctions, and live entertainment, will be held at the Omni Providence Hotel.

We will be honoring Rich Gingras, founder of The Parkinson’s Place in Pawtucket, as our 2018 honoree. Exciting new initiatives will be unveiled during the evening’s programming and the Board of Trustees will make a much-anticipated special announcement.

Funds raised from the Gala will be used to support customized care, specialized medical and activity programs, and operational capital needed to serve the patient and resident population from independent living to long-term skilled nursing care.

For sponsorship opportunities, please contact Elise Strom at United Methodist Elder Care: estrom@umeldercareri.org or 401-438-4456

To purchase tickets, please visit www.umeldercareri.org/adding-life-to-years before May 18.
