Explore the private gardens at Sakonnet in Little Compton, open for self-guided tours and plant sales to benefit the Garden Conservancy, Sakonnet, and local wild meadow restoration efforts. This English-style cottage garden features a series of enchanting garden rooms. The acre-sized main woodland garden is subdivided into a series of fourteen spaces separated by high windbreak hedges and stone walls. The whole is described as an outdoor folly; each space has its own mood and horticultural objective. Memorial Day weekend should occur at the garden’s peak of spring bloom. Late tulips and hundreds of trilliums and other woodland wildflowers should be in flower. The Newport Polo Club will host the 28th annual charity match to benefit the Newport Rotary Club and local 501-c-3 organizations to kick-off the summer season on Saturday, May 26 at 5 p.m.
Tickets are sold by the Newport Rotary Club at the entry gates ($10/adult, kids 12 and younger free) on game day. Advanced ticket sales are available from the participating organizations below. 100% of proceeds from ticket sales will support the participating civic and charitable organizations.
The classic six-chukker match will begin at 5 p.m., featuring local teams competing. Entry gates will open at 4 p.m. The event is open to the public, taking place at the International Polo Grounds at Glen Farm, 250 Linden Lane in Portsmouth. All are welcome to attend.
Organizations are invited to plan a day at polo for their supporters, hosted by Newport Polo at the International Polo Grounds. On Saturday, June 2, join United Methodist Elder Care for our annual “Adding Life to Years” gala, an evening to celebrate our purpose and passion of caring for residents living in our communities. The evening, with a cocktail reception, dinner program, auctions, and live entertainment, will be held at the Omni Providence Hotel.
We will be honoring Rich Gingras, founder of The Parkinson’s Place in Pawtucket, as our 2018 honoree. Exciting new initiatives will be unveiled during the evening’s programming and the Board of Trustees will make a much-anticipated special announcement.
Funds raised from the Gala will be used to support customized care, specialized medical and activity programs, and operational capital needed to serve the patient and resident population from independent living to long-term skilled nursing care.

Established in 1995 with funding from the Rhode Island Foundation, Connecting for Children and Families (CCF) is a community-based, non-profit organization located in Woonsocket, one of Rhode Island’s core urban cities. The Newport International Polo Series XXVII opens on Saturday, June 2 at 5 p.m. when Poland makes its debut against USA. After six periods, called chukkers, the match will conclude with the Veuve Clicquot Champagne Toast and Trophy Presentation, as well as an autograph signing to meet the players, and a special Après Polo celebration…a Bialowieza Forest Boar Roast, by advanced reservation only.
During the match, a weekly door prize drawing of a magnum of Veuve Clicquot Champagne and prize for the Best Tailgate from Stella Artois will be awarded. Specialty vendors and concessionaires will be present in the Hospitality village at the polo grounds, including the Twisted Pony Cocktail Bar, Horseshoe Wine Bar, Newport Polo Pro Shop, Brahmin among others and gourmet food trucks.
