Providence’s Best Bloody Mary @ Providence Arcade
May 20 all-day
Providence's Best Bloody Mary @ Providence Arcade

The New England Hemophilia Association and Rhode Island Food Fights will hold their inaugural, Providence’s Best Bloody Mary event on Sunday, May 20 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Providence Arcade at 65 Weybosset Street in downtown Providence. This will be the first bloody mary competition of its kind to pit local bartenders against one another to see whose spicy concoction will be deemed Providence’s Best.

Area bartenders are invited to compete for free and will be granted a table at the event where they can create their bloody mary. Competitors will be provided with vodka from event partner, Tito’s Handmade Vodka, but will bring their own mix, spices and garnishes to make their own unique drink. Those interested in competing in the event can register by visiting the link included below.

Providence bars currently registered include The Black Sheep, The Grange, New Harvest, Rogue Island Kitchen and Bar, TROOP, The Salted Slate and Wara Wara Restaurant.

Tickets to attend Providence’s Best Bloody Mary are $25 and include tokens to taste three-ounce pours. Voting tokens will also be included with a ticket as well as free appetizers and discounts to local downtown shops. Tokens will be collected and later counted to determine the populous vote. The winner of the populous vote for the best taste and garnish will receive a trophy and bragging rights as Providence’s Best Bloody.

The event will be held at the historic Providence Arcade, the first enclosed shopping mall in the United States where attendees at the event can take advantage of shopping before or after the event and enjoy local fare from food trucks parked outside. All proceeds from the event will benefit the New England Hemophilia Association, whose mission is to improve the quality of life for persons with bleeding disorders and their families through education, support and advocacy.

Additional event details are available at http://www.newenglandhemophilia.org/best-bloody-mary.html. Tickets for the event can be purchased at https://providencebestbloody.eventbrite.com.

Dance Music Jam Sessions @ Goff Hall
May 20 @ 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm
Dance Music Jam Sessions @ Goff Hall | Rehoboth | Massachusetts | United States

The dance music jam sessions continue in Rehoboth every Sunday night from 7-9 p.m. All are welcome!

Once a month throughout the year, the session is a Community Dance, at which we teach everything that needs teaching, depending on the experience of the dancers. The Community Dances go from 7 to 9 p.m. and are preceded by a potluck at 6 p.m.

All Jammers dances are held on Sunday nights from 7 to 9 with a potluck at 6 p.m.

For information or to check about cancellations, call Bob Elliott at 774-644-1369 or email him at bobolinkelliott@yahoo.com.

The Sunday Night Jammers are a group of (mostly) instrumental (mostly) musicians, who play (mostly) Celtic-inspired dance music. Our music is (mostly) for couple dances, such as waltzes, hambos, polkas, and schottisches.

Now, to clear up those “mostly”s:
1) Sometimes we sing…or at least some of us sing.
2) Some of us are very serious musicians, some are duffers, many are in between. We are VERY polite about each other’s errors.
3) We started with English, Scottish, Irish, Canadian, and New England dance music, but we have gotten more international as the months go by.
4) After Scandinavian and German couple dances, a few Israeli line dances appeared, followed by some Greek and Balkan dances with “interesting” time signatures.

In brief, all of us have learned a lot, and we welcome others to come play, teach, learn, and, in general, have fun!

Having provided a half-century of accessible public performances around the Ocean State, the 60-member volunteer ensemble known as the Warwick Symphony Orchestra brings classical and orchestral pops performances to communities across Rhode Island, who may not otherwise have easy access to quality live music events. Our expanding membership of amateur adults, high school and college students, retired professionals, music educators, and life-long learners are dedicated to the social, spiritual and cognitive benefits of presenting and attending live performances. Bringing high quality, affordable performances to diverse communities, the WSO ensures accessibility and appeal to a wide-ranging audience of varied backgrounds.

Established in 1966 by George Low as a continuing education opportunity through the Warwick Public Schools, the WSO is now a non-profit regional orchestra with a diverse membership. Catherine Gagnon is the WSO’s fifth Music Director– an active music educator and performer herself. Under her guidance, the WSO presents eight concerts annually in varied communities across the state with music spanning genres from pops selections, music of theater and Broadway, popular works, and traditional orchestral repertoire. The WSO strives to balance concerts with works that are known and those that can help to develop our audience’s understanding of and appreciation for classical and contemporary music– all at affordable prices.

Late tulips and hundreds of trilliums and other woodland wildflowers should be in flower. Blue poppies, blue camassias, the gaudy azalea hedge and rhododendron punchbowl, a confection of pinks and whites should be in full bloom. No reservations required; rain or shine.
