Food Truck Friday is back in 2018 for the fourth season. End your week at Food Truck Friday at Roger Williams Park Zoo and Carousel Village with some of the best food trucks in Rhode Island brought to you PVD Food Truck Events.

There will be free salsa lessons, courtesy of Mambo Pa Ti, from 8-9 p.m.

Newport Rotary Club Benefit Match @ Newport Polo

The Newport Polo Club will host the 28th annual charity match to benefit the Newport Rotary Club and local 501-c-3 organizations to kick-off the summer season on Saturday, May 26 at 5 p.m.

Tickets are sold by the Newport Rotary Club at the entry gates ($10/adult, kids 12 and younger free) on game day. Advanced ticket sales are available from the participating organizations below. 100% of proceeds from ticket sales will support the participating civic and charitable organizations.

The classic six-chukker match will begin at 5 p.m., featuring local teams competing. Entry gates will open at 4 p.m. The event is open to the public, taking place at the International Polo Grounds at Glen Farm, 250 Linden Lane in Portsmouth. All are welcome to attend.

Organizations are invited to plan a day at polo for their supporters, hosted by Newport Polo at the International Polo Grounds. Opportunities to participate are open to qualified 501-3c organizations. Two benefit matches are scheduled for this purpose this year: May 26 and July 15. Download the guidelines to participate Here. On Saturday, June 2, join United Methodist Elder Care for our annual “Adding Life to Years” gala, an evening to celebrate our purpose and passion of caring for residents living in our communities. The evening, with a cocktail reception, dinner program, auctions, and live entertainment, will be held at the Omni Providence Hotel.

We will be honoring Rich Gingras, founder of The Parkinson’s Place in Pawtucket, as our 2018 honoree. Exciting new initiatives will be unveiled during the evening’s programming and the Board of Trustees will make a much-anticipated special announcement.

Funds raised from the Gala will be used to support customized care, specialized medical and activity programs, and operational capital needed to serve the patient and resident population from independent living to long-term skilled nursing care.

Established in 1995 with funding from the Rhode Island Foundation, Connecting for Children and Families (CCF) is a community-based, non-profit organization located in Woonsocket, one of Rhode Island’s core urban cities. After six periods, called chukkers, the match will conclude with the Veuve Clicquot Champagne Toast and Trophy Presentation, as well as an autograph signing to meet the players, and a special Après Polo celebration…a Bialowieza Forest Boar Roast, by advanced reservation only.

During the match, a weekly door prize drawing of a magnum of Veuve Clicquot Champagne and prize for the Best Tailgate from Stella Artois will be awarded. Specialty vendors and concessionaires will be present in the Hospitality village at the polo grounds, including the Twisted Pony Cocktail Bar, Horseshoe Wine Bar, Newport Polo Pro Shop, Brahmin among others and gourmet food trucks. Dating back more than 130 years in Newport, the polo matches are one of Newport’s grandest and most popular traditions, a living legacy from the Gilded Age, and open to the public. Audiences of several thousand spectators enjoy the contests against international teams, as well as teams representing major US cities, playing against the home team every Sat, June through Sept. at 5 p.m. and 4 p.m.

This is the 27 season of Newport International Polo Series, which has hosted teams from over thirty nations including, Ireland, Germany, Spain, England, Argentina, France, Egypt, India, Australia, Costa Rica, Ghana, Canada, Chile, Jamaica, Nigeria, Portugal, New Zealand, Barbados, Scotland, South Africa, Hungary, Dominican Republic, Netherlands, Kenya, Brazil, China, Italy, Mexico, Sweden, Singapore, Monaco, Morocco, Peru and Poland making its debut.

Poland’s heavily wooded landscape made game & fruits of the forest a staple for special celebrations. Enjoy succulently ‘roasted boar,’ fresh, Rhode Island farm-raised delicious suckling pig, professionally roasted on site at the polo grounds for your dining pleasure, with beloved Polish favorite sides and dessert, following USA vs. Poland. Farm-fresh meats and locally sourced produce expertly prepared for the teams after a hard-fought match.

Tickets cost $28 per person, quantity limited, by advanced reservation until sold out. Cash bar. Polo match tickets sold separately. Must present ticket at the buffet; Tickets are for individual dinner portions per person. This is not an unlimited buffet.

Sorry, no child portions available. For children, we recommend the food concessionaires on site during the match, so that after the match, the adults can eat while the kids play on the polo field under your watchful eye.

Poland’s legendary Bialowieza Forest, Europe’s only remaining primeval woodland, covering some 500 square miles in eastern Poland and Belarus is home to bison, elk, deer and wild boar among other game roaming the famed lowland forest hunting grounds today.
