StyleWeek Northeast had lots of surprises this session, including a visit by Providence's Big Nazo performance group, who presented Kent Stetson's handbags as a performance, pinup-worthy fashion by Kara Wickman and wearable velvet, feathers and fur by Stephanie Kolanko. Check out the videos below.

Kent Stetson

The catwalk became a stage for Kent Stetson’s tenth-year anniversary celebration. He’s been creating his incredible handbags—works of art, really—for a decade, and he wanted to go big for this show. The audience was in for quite a delight when his unconventional models strutted their stuff—Providence's own Big Nazo lab creatures! There were at least a dozen wild and ridiculous alien-like creatures stalking down the runway presenting his purses like gifts from the gods. Handbag designs included a photographic print of a Martian’s face made into an oversized clutch, a fuchsia space suit-like tote, a leather carry-all with an alien eye printed lining, a black tote sporting a bony x-ray print and an amazing orange purse with dangling gold chains. Which begs to ask the question–which came first, the aliens or the bags? kentstetson.com

Kara Wickman

Whimsy was the word for this show, as Kara Wickman sent models down the runway in velvet, metallics and corseted tops matched with ruffled hot pants reminiscent of ‘50s pinup girls. Colorful ribbons dangled down the back of the bodices, and other highlights included beautifully tailored pencil skirts accented by an unusual fabric—a shiny paisley pattern paired with neutral white. Also part of the collection are floor-length velvet skirts, oversized velvet jackets and wide-legged pants. karawickman.com

Stephanie Kolanko

Kolanko’s collection featured velvet and floral-patterned satin and lots of faux fur and feather embellishments. Every piece was wearable for the fashion-forward woman, but favorites included a floor-length black gown with a maroon feathered neckline, a green fur shawl paired with a long-sleeved floral blouse and black leather striped shorts worn with tights, and a fur vest paired with a long-sleeved top and black leather leggings. facebook.com/stephkdesigns
