Discover Newport and the Newport Marriott are celebrating Christmas in Newport in a sweet way. Constructed by the Newport Marriott’s kitchen team, a sixteen-foot tall gingerbread lighthouse artfully decorated with gumdrops and candy canes sets the record for New England’s largest working gingerbread lighthouse. The culinary creation took 100 hours to bake, build and decorate, and it’s made from 350 pounds of gingerbread including more than 1,600 bricks and 2,400 pieces of candy held together with twenty gallons of royal icing!

The festive lighthouse is part of Christmas in Newport, a month-long celebration that embraces the non-commercial traditions of the holiday season. Visitors can stroll past the white Christmas lights that illuminate homes, shops, restaurants, city streets and the bustling wharves, watch annual tree lightings and take part in lantern-led walking tours. Snap a photo of the lighthouse that has been a treat for visitors both near and far for the last seventeen years and much more.

The gingerbread lighthouse can be found inside the Newport Visitor Center, located at 23 America’s Cup Ave. in Newport. Visitors can view the gingerbread delight daily excluding Christmas Day until January 1, and are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to fill the sleigh for local food pantries. Complimentary parking is available in the garage at the Visitor Information Center, courtesy of the City of Newport. Hours are Saturdays through Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
