Relive JFK and Jackie O.’s Wedding in Newport
The Return to Camelot presentation at St. Mary's Church includes vintage film clips and a live performance of the music and hymns from the wedding ceremony.
Relive Jackie O and JFK’s Newport wedding at the historic St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Newport every Tuesday at 3 p.m. now through October. Guests can get a glimpse back in time on the date of September 12, 1953, when Jacqueline Bouvier married then Senator John F. Kennedy in this weekly event coined Return to Camelot.
The event features a presentation of vintage film clips, a live performance of the music and hymns from the wedding ceremony and the first dance song at the reception at Hammersmith Farm, which was Jackie’s childhood summer home in Newport.
The program was produced due to popular demand. “We realized Newport’s many summer tourists have an avid interest in visiting the historic church and learning more about the Kennedy wedding,” says Father Kris Von Maluski, pastor at St. Mary’s. “The forty-five minute presentation is being offered to allow visitors to tour the church afterwards, view pew number ten where JFK and Jackie prayed while attending mass when visiting Newport, and kneel on the very kneelers used during their wedding ceremony.”
All proceeds from the presentation go to the restoration of St. Mary’s choir loft and newly refurbished Casavant pipe organ. Due to safety issues, the church cannot be left open or unattended.
