Farm-to-Table Feast for a Friend in Need
Wildwood Catering is hosting a pop-up meal at UMelt for $50 per person to help out a family friend who was horrifically injured after saving her four-year-old son’s life.
Satisfy your hunger and help a great cause this Fri., Nov. 8 with a four-course, farm-to-table dinner from Wildwood Catering. Jessica Wood and her husband, Ben, owners of Wildwood Catering, are hosting a pop-up meal at UMelt at 5 p.m. for $50 per person to help out a family friend who was horrifically injured after saving her four-year-old son’s life.
This past July, an oncoming vehicle sped toward Wendy Rodger and her son, Evan. Luckily, Wendy was able to push her son out of harm’s way, but the car struck Wendy, shattering her pelvis, collapsing her lung and fracturing multiple bones. She was airlifted to Tufts Medical Center in Boston in critical condition, but her son remained safe and sound though he was shook up from the incident. Doctors stabilized Wendy, but her pelvis required an external fixation device, leaving her with metal rods protruding from her hips. After three months of hospitalization and rehabilitation, she was able to return home to her husband and two sons, Jake and Evan. But now she’s learning to function in a wheelchair, and her medical bills have surpassed $1 million.
Before this unfortunate incident, Wendy and Jessica Wood ran the Pell Bridge Run in Newport for the last two years. It had started to become a tradition, and this year, they’ll do it again on Sunday morning at 6:30 a.m. However, this time, Jessica will be pushing Wendy in her wheelchair. The Woods decided to host a fundraising dinner for the family on Friday evening to help Wendy pay some of her medical expenses. She also requires ongoing home care, intensive physical therapy, specialized medical equipment and home modifications. She’s learning to walk again with help from a walker.
For a $50 minimum donation, you can enjoy a four-course meal and 100 percent of the proceeds will help Wendy’s family. Tickets to the 5 p.m. seating are still available at https://squareup.com/market/wildwood-catering. Can't attend the dinner? You can still donate. And be sure to cheer on Wendy and Jessica this Sunday at the Pell Bridge Run!
