ArtProv Gallery’s newest exhibit “Undefined” features the works of S.W. Dinge. Dinge produced the paintings for the show mostly on the floor, watering down the gouache and acrylic paints and pouring them onto an unprimed canvas. The borders of each color were allowed to run and seep to their desired shape and position with little or no assistance from my hand. By allowing the “randomness” of each pour to occur, he attempted to capture the fate and destiny of a single fleeting moment in time and space. Once dry, another pour was made in the same manner. While allowing the chance occurrences to happen, his primary focus then became deciding where each “random” event would occur in relation to the previous events.
By layering these moments, and adding some cosmetic boosts, he aimed to create harmonic constructions of time, color and movement that draw from the Dadaist’s practice of disassociation and the usage of chance.
The show runs through March 17, 2018. For the week of February 11, 2018, gallery hours are Tuesday – Friday, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m., and Saturday, 12 p.m. – 4 p.m.
