“History Comes Alive” at Portsmouth Historical Society

History Comes Alive at the Portsmouth Historical Society
In what has become a highly popular annual event, the Portsmouth Historical Society, in partnership with the Portsmouth Community Theater, will present a new performance of “History Comes Alive” on the museum grounds on Sunday, 8 October, from 2-4 PM. Community theater members will portray real characters from Portsmouth’s past, discussing the issues and activities of their times. This performance will include some new personalities, so even those who have experienced “History Comes Alive” in the past should find this event interesting and entertaining.
The historical characters and the Portsmouth Community Theater actors portraying them will include:
– In the Upstairs Church – Ron Marsh as Christian Union Church clerk George Manchester will talk about the church congregation and activities in the late 1800s.
– In the “Southermost” School – Richard Schmidt as James Preston (shown here), first schoolmaster at “Southermost” school will take the class through some culminating exercises before harvest break in the 1700’s.

– In the Museum – Cindy Killavey as Emeline Eldridge will talk about her dear friend Sarah Eddy in the early 1900s.
– In the Old Town Hall – Tonya Kieron as Geri Camara will talk about farming in Portsmouth and growing up on Glen Farm in the 1800s.

Please join us for a fascinating look at life in historic Portsmouth. The Society’s guides will show visitors around their historic buildings and introduce them to the characters above.
