BYO Venues

Four spots where you can bring your own and be entertained.

Our February issue features dozens of restaurants where you can bring your own beer or wine — and arguably cut your bill in half. But the BYO-mantra extends beyond the walls of those twenty-two eateries. Check out these entertainment spots where you can bring your own stash:

The Venue: Common Fence Music, 933 Anthony Rd., Portsmouth

The Vibe: Neighborly, family-style seating for Americana, blues, folk and roots shows. On February 8, see Zili Misik, an all-female music and dance ensemble playing African-influenced soul. ($22 in advance.)

What to Bring: Both beer and wine are the norm here. Don’t forget a packed picnic basket or cash to purchase baked goodies from the snack stand.

More Info: Call 401-683-5085 or visit commonfencemusic.org.

The Venue: Firehouse Theater, 4 Equality Park Pl., Newport

The Vibe: The Firehouse hosts the Bit Players, the funniest improv comedy troupe on Aquidneck Island. On Valentine’s Day, gather up a group of friends — or just one special friend — for a hilarious night of laughter and love. Reserve your tickets early; shows sell out. ($15)

What to Bring: Hooch, brewskies and Carlo Rossi are all welcome (but prepare to be picked on if you choose the jug wine; you're asking for it).

More Info: Call 401-849-3473 or visit bitplayers.net.

The Venue: Narrows Center for the Arts, 16 Anawan St., Fall River, Mass.

The Vibe: Legends and rising roots superstars have hit the stage at this renowned venue. Arrive early and get a table in front. This Saturday, February 1, see prolific singer/songwriter/pianist and four-time Grammy nominee Marcia Ball. ($35 in advance, $40 at the door.)

What to Bring: Stuff a cooler with beer or wine; if it fits under a chair, you’re free to imbibe. Bring snacks, too.

More Info: Call 508-324-1926 or visit narrowscenter.org.

The Venue: Paint Drops, 560 Mineral Spring Ave., Unit BF126, Pawtucket

The Vibe: Talent need not apply for this paint party. Just show up with a bottle and get a stroke-by-stroke introduction into the world of painting. On February 1 and 5, create a reproduction of Monet’s “Starry Night” with the Providence skyline swapped in. ($35)

What to Bring: Keep it classy and opt for a bottle of red or white to share with a friend.
