New York Times’ Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Nicholas D. Kristof will be the keynote speaker at Day One’s annual luncheon. Kristof is also co-author of the New York Times best-selling book Half the Sky: Turning Oppression Into Opportunity for Women Worldwide. The fundraising event, entitled “Fairer Skies: Global Challenges, Local Opportunities,” will be held at the Rhode IslandConvention Center in Providence on December 10 at noon. Members of the public are invited to attend and tickets are $125 each.
“Nicholas Kristof is a highly respected investigative journalist whose book Half the Sky sheds light on the plight of woman and girls in developing countries who are victimized through sex trafficking, forced prostitution, and other forms of gender-based neglect and violence,” said Peg Langhammer, executive director, Day One. “Through the telling of real-life stories, Kristof gives us hope that change is possible. Together we can make the world a better place for women and girls and, in turn, for all of humankind.”
Half the Sky was recently featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show, in People magazine, and hit No. 2 on Amazon's non-fiction best-seller list.
