Bank of America’s philanthropic approach is to provide meaningful change by making investments in neighborhoods for the future. To achieve this goal, they form partnerships with key community stakeholders, investing in organizations to help identify critical needs and better equip the community to address those needs.
In 2007, Bank of America gave approximately $3,000,000 in grants and sponsorships to several dozen charities through the state, making it one of Rhode Island’s top five corporate sponsors.
Over the span of four years, Bank of America has provided the Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence with more than $160,000 in financial support. Through Bank of America’s Neighborhood Excellence Initiative/Student Leaders Program – a meaningful career and community development internship experience - five student leaders received exposure to the Clubs’ mission as well as the community’s needs. The students developed leadership skills and expanded their knowledge of operational aspects of managing programs and leading, teaching and participating in program areas.
Bank of America has also been a sponsor of the Clubs’ Kids Nite Out Dinner and Underwriting Party for children and youth from diverse or difficult circumstances, provided financial and in-kind contributions to youth development programs, and supported Project L.E.A.R.N, an after-school homework help and tutoring program serving 50 to 100 kids on a weekly basis.
Crossroads Rhode Island has benefited from Bank of America’s funding of the Women’s Shelter, The Copy Center at Crossroads and many other social service programs. Without their support, Crossroads would not be able to support the thousands of homeless and disconnected men, women and children of our state as they journey toward a better quality of life.
The Providence After School Alliance’s (PASA) success can be directly attributed to Bank of America’s active engagement in building a quality after-school learning environment for the City’s youth. For the past four years, they have supported the Young Athletes Sports grant program, enabling small grants to be dispersed to multiple volunteer sports organizations, making it possible to upgrade equipment, facilities and qualifications of coaching staff.
In the last two years, Bank of America has contributed over one-quarter of a million dollars to the Lifespan Hospitals to support the delivery of quality and compassionate health care to Rhode Island families.
Team Bank of America is an organization of current and retired Associates who volunteer their time to touch the lives of Rhode Islanders. In 2007, Team Bank of America contributed 25,000 volunteer hours in Rhode Island. Projects included Habitat for Humanity, Volunteers in Public Schools, Relay for Life, March of Dimes Walk, Daffodil Days, American Heart Walk and the Spirit of Giving Holiday Drive.
Bank of America’s leadership team of 14 individuals serves on the board of 29 different organizations. Additionally, many other Associates serve on boards throughout the community as well.
Bank of America does much more than provide financial support. Immersing themselves in the organizations to which they contribute, they set the standard for corporate philanthropy and deserve to be recognized for their contribution to the Rhode Island community.
