Marjorie Brightman Catanzaro believes in making a positive change in the lives of others. Through forty years of generosity and volunteerism, Marjorie has clearly helped the Rhode Island non-profit community thrive.
Marjorie has been involved with multiple non-profit organizations throughout the state for five decades. From 1960 to 1970 she was a member of the Women’s Intergroup Committee where she worked hard to pass fair housing legislation in Rhode Island. She was also very active and served on the board of the RI Community Preparatory School.
For the past 20 years, Marjorie has been involved with the Rhode Island School of Design and the RISD Museum. She has served as board member, chairperson for fundraising events, the Eliza Radekie Society and steering committees and made leadership gifts to the RISD Student Health and Fitness Center. Additionally, she has also hosted numerous cultivation and stewardship events at her home.
For many years, Marjorie has been involved with Volunteers In Providence Schools (VIPS), as a donor and a volunteer. In the past three years she has served on numerous committees and volunteered her time to honor mentors, students and philanthropists. Marjorie also donated the use of her conservation property in Scituate for the Learn to Earn program. In total, her efforts have helped raise enough funds to enable VIPS to provide tutoring, mentoring and literacy programs to 10,000 Providence public school students.
Marjorie has also served the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra and The Music School for more than two decades, in the role of board member, special events committee member and member of the Conductors Circle. She has been a key player in both annual and campaign solicitations. In 2007, Marjorie and her husband Robert received the John Hazen White Sr. Leadership Award.
Additionally, Marjorie has been a strong supporter of the Food Bank, giving generous financial contributions as well as immersing herself in the organization’s fundraising efforts.
Throughout her life, Marjorie has given generously of her time and her treasure and also worked relentlessly to motivate others to contribute. Marjorie is a friend and an inspiration to all of us in the nonprofit sector - always ready and willing to take the lead and make a positive change for our community.
