An Exhibition of Works by David Dewey, Robert Manice and Paul Rickert The focus of this exhibition of watercolors, by these artists, is to highlight the natural beauty of Newport and its surrounding landscape. These three friends have developed their own unique styles in capturing light and form on paper. David Dewey, known for his expressive handling of washes on a monumental scale, captures the luminist glow of the sky over water. He has taught for many years at the National Academy of Fine Arts, the Parsons School of Design and the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts, as well as conducting workshops in mid-coast Maine and Newport. Robert Manice brings to life the sparkle of sunlight as it plays with rocks, water and trees. His paintings have the rhythmical markings reminiscent of the modernist works often associated with John Marin. He has supported the arts throughout his career and currently serves on the board of the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts, and is a former trustee of the Newport Art Museum. Paul Rickert enjoys working with the dramatic elements of light and shadows and their effects on both landscapes and interiors. Rickert’s paintings are consistently true to nature, and the paint has a most beautiful and organic quality to it. His father, illustrator William Rickert, was his first teacher and before pursuing his present career he was a war artist during the Vietnam War. Each of the artists have won many awards through-out their careers and their art is in numerous corporate, museum and private collections. |
