DanceBrazil; Big Rooster finds a new home and the minds behind Nuts ‘N More

DanceBrazil

WHY: This NYC-based troupe serves a soul-stirring blend of original Afro-Brazilian music and contemporary dance. But the performers’ command of the stage is rooted in a deeper place: Capoeira, a traditional form of martial arts that originated in sixteenth-century Africa. The complex movements, which resemble both dance and acrobatics, were used in the fight against slavery in Colonial Brazil.
WHERE: Rhode Island College, 600 Mount Pleasant Ave., Providence.
