The Local Food Lover's Guide
The locavore movement is more popular than ever, so we traveled across the state to track down the best in local farmers markets, bread, seafood and more.
Buying local is more popular than ever, thanks to the growing outreach of our state’s beloved farmers, purveyors and fishermen. Rhode Island is top notch when it comes to producing wholesome food, including fruits, vegetables, meats, cheeses, bread, seafood and even home-spun goods. The most recent Census of Agriculture ranks Rhode Island third in the nation when it comes to direct marketing sales on a per-farm basis, and the number of farms has increased by 42 percent since 2002. We traveled the area to find the best farmers markets, locally made products, bread bakeries, fish markets, livestock breeders and farm stands, where you can meet the people and families who put their heart and soul into what we eat.
